Gerotek is the only test centre in Southern
Africa to offer a specialised service for the testing of all
thermodynamic cooling systems.
Gerotek vehicle
thermodynamic evaluation includes:
- Evaluation of cooling systems
- Evaluation of heat exchanger and fan
- Testing the effects of the cooling performance
on other vehicle sub-systems
- Re-design of cooling systems and integral
components of the cooling system
Using a thermocouple logger with 100 channels
and measuring equipment, Gerotek can perform thermodynamic
tests anywhere in the world.
Two basic methods
of evaluation used are :
- Testing on rugged mountain passes:
This method has been developed so as to reflect 95% of end-user
conditions. The test is performed by loading the vehicle
to design load and driving it on suitable mountain passes,
in accordance with conditions requested by the client.
- Testing at extreme conditions:-
These tests are specifically devised to qualify the heat
exchanger and fan or cooling assembly. They are performed
on Gerotek's High Speed Track at low speed.
The tests, for an infinite period of time,
are suitable for military or off-road vehicles where the speeds
(ram airflow) are low but the power requirement is high. The
air-to-boil can be determined using this test at maximum power
and torque.
All tests for a design and development evaluation can be performed
on Gerotek's roller dynamometer. It has a maximum
speed of 120 km/h and a maximum power of 600 kW. The ram air
can, however, be controlled by external electrical fans.
Reports are available in graphical or tabular format. Photographs
and video material of the test equipment and positions are
also available.
