Ergonomics Assessments
The ergonomics assessment of your premises will enable your organisation to address challenges in today’s world of competitive economy where every business needs to maximise efficiency through cost-effective use of human resources, machinery and technology in order to survive and prosper. The services that we offer will:

• Significantly improve workers’ efficiency and effectiveness
• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation
• Ensure compliance with the requirements of the NOSA five star grading system.

Ergonomics assessments holistically address ergonomics factors affecting people, machine, workspace and work environment.

People
People are the key to the success or failure of any organisation. Each person has individual characteristics and capabilities that are hard to change. But the way people work can be changed.

ERGOTECH will:
• Assess work postures and identify possible postural problems that could result in strain or physical injury and impact on the workers’ efficiency and effectiveness
• Analyse workers’ physiological demands when performing the tasks
• Assess organisational factors to ensure effective utilisation of people within the limits of their capabilities.

Machine
A machine or any object used at work must meet the requirements of the people that use it. The human-machine interface such as the controls and displays must meet the expectations of the users.

ERGOTECH will:

• Assess the layout, accessibility of the controls and displays, and the safety features
• Measure the biomechanical forces required for operating the controls
• Compare the results of the biomechanical assessments with the biomechanical force data for the South African population
• Determine acceptability of manual materials handling activities for the user population (i.e. male, female)

Workspace
The workspace and workstation are important domains of the ergonomics survey. Comfortable posture, efficiency of movement and the usability of a workstation contribute to a positive worker attitude, higher morale, higher productivity and enhanced safety.

ERGOTECH will:

• Assess workspace layout, configuration and access
• Assess the interrelationship of the workstation with the user and task
• Assess seating and work posture

Task
Task processes can produce risk factors, which affect the workers' productivity. The results of organisational decisions have a significant influence on the workers’ efficiency.

ERGOTECH will:
• Analyse task requirements
• Analyse task restrictiveness
• Identify task risk factors
• Assess task cognitive requirements
• Assess work repetitiveness

Environment
Environmental stressors have an important impact on workers. People may outwardly appear to cope with poor conditions but their work and health could suffer.

Effects of exposure to environmental stressors include:

• Eye strain, hearing loss, headaches and fatigue
• More errors, accidents and injuries
• Reduced productivity
• High rates of absenteeism

ERGOTECH has the expertise and the technology to assess the exposure to physical environmental stressors such as:

• Noise for hearing conservation and zoning
• Lighting levels for compliance with legislation and environmental standards
• Thermal or indoor climatic conditions for work physiology
• Whole body, arm and structural vibration

Additional services offered include:
• Complete office ergonomics survey
• Research in anthropometry, biomechanics, physiology and human functional performance
Specification and design of human-machine systems
Training in applied ergonomics and implementation of ergonomics programme

Service assurance and financial implications
ERGOTECH is an approved inspection authority with the Department of Labour. We conduct our services based on your requirements. We will work with you to provide recommendations that are practical and realistic to implement.
