| Ergonomists are concerned with
the optimum match between the capabilities and limitations of
the human and the requirement of the objects, equipment or workstations
that are used. Globally, industry is experiencing changes in
the profile of the workforce, such as the aging workforce and
women entering traditionally male jobs. The capabilities of
a young fit male generally differ from those of an aging person,
male or female.
The focus has been on recent activities, namely load carriage
and manual handling tasks are being researched by ERGOTECH.
The application of functional strength capabilities commonly
used to perform pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying tasks
as well as to operate controls such as levers, wheels, etc.
is essential when considering purchase, design and development
of equipment or vehicles. In order to create an optimum match
between person and object, the capabilities of the user population
must be determined. Correctly applied, the data can contribute
significantly to the reduction and/or prevention of musculoskeletal
disorders occurring in the user population.
