Business activity description

Through its various specialised divisions the Institute provides customised operations research and solutions for its user communities in the South African Department of Defence. It also tailors other strategic and commercial products and services based on its primary defence technologies, and markets these to finance sustainment of capacity and capability for Defence purposes.

	IMT IMT is a multi-disciplinary division specialising in defence research, development, testing and evaluation of maritime systems. The objective of the division is to satisfy identified needs of the DOD for techno-military support, products and services, and to establish applicable technology and systems to further the interests of the SANDF. 	Protechnik Protechnik Laboratories is a research and development division concerned with chemical defence and non-proliferation of chemical weapons. Established as a private company in 1986, it was acquired by Armscor in September 1996 due to the fact that it provides essential defence capabilities, which were no longer available in the private sector. It is a multi-disciplinary laboratory facility specialising in the protection of personnel in a hazardous environment, the evaluation of materials for the procurement of protection equipment, the detection of trace amount of hazardous chemicals as well as quality control and assurance support for chemical defensive products. Hazmat
